I thought the program was well organized and well paced.
A very helpful reinforcement of the climate for independent schools with interesting thoughts about the mindset needed for us to thrive.”
~2016 Board Chair/Clerk & HOS Dinner & Dialogue attendee
“Well-organized and thorough introduction to concepts surrounding GSD. I am really happy to see ADVIS prioritizing these discussions and making them accessible to teachers and admins. The small group work session was excellent. Great real world scenarios to role play through and then discuss with colleagues.”

ADVIS Annual Report & Membership Renewal
“A dynamic community of independent schools in the Greater Delaware Valley and beyond, ADVIS enriches and sustains schools through advocacy, thought leadership, professional development, and networking opportunities.” ~ADVIS Mission Statement
Dear ADVIS Heads of School,
As we prepare to celebrate ADVIS’s 35th anniversary year, while also celebrating the expanded reach of the first year of the MCRC@ADVIS track of programs and the launch next week of the fully-enrolled inaugural ADVIS-Penn Summer Leadership Institute, we are very proud to highlight the value of your ADVIS membership.
Please take a few moments to view this
Professional Development Report for 2015-16
– it will reinforce the strong return on investment of ADVIS membership, and also offer a snapshot preview of the year ahead. We are especially proud to share the statistics related to
programs and the added value this brings to many schools that previously did not have access to these programs. In the last week I had two conversations related to current parents who are concerned about knowing what efforts our schools are making to create true communities of equity and inclusion. You may want to communicate your school's involvement with MCRC@ADVIS programs – a good place to start is to send your faculty to the
Cultural Competency Institute for Educators
on August 25th.
Once again, ADVIS enjoyed record participation in its professional development programs this year, with attendance at face-to-face events up 114% over the previous year and 93% of our schools attending at least one program; 62% attended five or more programs (compared to 55% last year). We are proud to have once again achieved high ratings on programs meeting attendees’ expectations, one of several measures of excellence for which we strive.
Our major regional marketing campaign represents nearly 10% of our budget, and this year focused heavily on the late winter and spring admission cycle via public radio broadcasts that equitably cover our membership region. Anecdotally, we received more feedback on these spots, which provide useful information, debunk myths, and make the case for independent education, than anything else we have done over the years. The goal of course is to get folks to our website to learn more, and then ultimately, to you!
Member schools enjoy many additional services ADVIS provides. This year we produced an extensive
eight-year analysis of regional enrollment trends
in every sub-segment of our membership, which was distributed and subsequently used to inform several presentations. We updated the
Guidelines for Good Practice in Responding to Media Surveys and Inquiries
Recommendation as to Data Points to Include on School Websites
documents that schools rely on for guidance when approached by the media. The ADVIS website serves as a central clearing house for open administrative positions – it is our most visited page. We place group advertisements of the Policy of Nondiscrimination as required by the IRS to maintain your 501 c 3 status, effecting economies of scale and ensuring that this important task is not overlooked. The
ADVIS Common Recommendation Forms for Admission
In Support of Independent Education
brochures, which make the case for annual giving to both current parents and alumni, both serve as industry models.
ADVIS membership yields tangible, high-value benefits for you and your trustees, your school, your staff. Your school membership renewal invoice has been sent directly to your Business Office. For the second consecutive year, we are extremely pleased to maintain an overall increase to the membership fee of less than 2%, or $.15 per enrolled student as confirmed as of school opening in 2015. The actual increase of course will vary by school, depending on overall school size and opening enrollment fluctuations in 2015 over the previous year.
The form to update membership information in our database will be sent to your assistant shortly (or your designee - if this person has changed, please let us know). You will want to make sure this is completed promptly, as our online database feeds both the School Search function for the public on our website, and our Online Membership Directory (if you haven’t used this yet, it will wow you – check it out!).
As always, we welcome your questions and feedback. We very much value your participation in the association and look forward to serving you in the 2016-17 year. Best wishes for a restorative summer!
