Teaching for Deeper Learning
Based on her book by the same title, Monica Martinez explores the concept of
and shares her vision for what students should be able to do and know when they transition out of middle school or graduate from high school. Participants will reflect on their own school and consider how they are preparing their students with the skills, mindset and content knowledge necessary for the 21st century, including work, life and postsecondary success. While almost all educators agree that Deeper Learning is the way forward for the future of education, some do not understand how to bring this to the classroom and across a school. Monica will describe the strategies for Deeper Learning, have the group discuss the necessary teacher competencies, and then share the conditions needed to have in place to transition your school to focus on Deeper Learning using
Deeper Learning: A Planning Guide
. The Guide is grounded in Deeper Learning as an example of a vision, but also introduces a theory of action for transforming or redesigning schools to ensure students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be successful in the 21st Century.
Please note, while all educators and administrators are welcome, this program is best suited for those with a focus on Middle and Upper School students.
