Thoughts from a previous cohort participant:
What I most prized was the advice from a seasoned pro from outside of my own organization. I have been at one place for so long that I lack perspective/objectivity. Hench was really good at providing wisdom and sharing his experiences as well as giving advice with a fresh perspective--devoid of emotional investment, etc. I really liked the way he talked about getting job descriptions and action plans hammered out, and in the beginning of the course, in particular, I found his guidance about articulating expectations for your team very timely and helpful. In short, Hench made much of administration transparent, sharing the "inside baseball" talk with us. I appreciated his candor and sincerity.
Coaching Your Team – A Mentoring Cohort for Recently Appointed Administrators
For Assistant Heads, Division Heads, Deans, Directors of Admissions, Diversity, College Guidance, and Advancement, Department Chairs, and anyone who has to manage people and problems.
The majority of problems for school administrators involve dealing with people. Managing students certainly presents its share of problems, but managing adults presents a very different set of challenges. Your peers are no longer your peers. Your decisions have broader impact and are more widely scrutinized. Your success now often depends on the how well your team members carry out their responsibilities.
Some of the topics that will be discussed include:
Articulating why you want to be an administrator
Understanding your own management style
Establishing authority and creating buy-in
Evaluating individual and team performance
Knowing when to delegate
Staying organized and managing time
Balancing professional and personal lives
