Gender & Sexuality Diversity in PreK-12
Exploring Frameworks, Values, & Practice
with Jennifer Bryan, Ph.D., Team Finch Consulting
Students naturally adopt a range of identities, expressions and roles as they navigate the emotional, social and academic world of school. Gender and sexuality are at the heart of this developmental process for children of all ages, yet many educators are unsure about how and when to engage with these issues. Now more than ever, teachers and administrators must be able to discuss, confidently and competently, issues surrounding gender and sexuality.
Gender and Sexuality Diversity (GSD) is an inclusive framework that provides language and concepts for understanding these aspects of human identity. This workshop will explore how the GSD framework, along with your school mission, can provide guidance, whether you are looking for the best way to challenge gender stereotypes in first grade, disrupt sexist exclusion at recess, support an eighth grader who is coming out, establish locker room policies that address the needs of transgender students, or provide all adolescents with relevant health and sexuality education.
Features of the workshop include:
This workshop is appropriate for a broad range of independent school educators including school heads, division directors, classroom teachers, diversity coordinators, counselors, admissions professionals, and athletics staff.
Fee: ADVIS member schools pay $85 per person. $205 for non-members. Payment should be made by check or credit card in advance of the program.
