Professional Bio

Tom Needham’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to developing people and strengthening educational communities. As an executive coach and mentor, he brings nearly five decades of leadership experience supporting students, faculty, families, and fellow educators, with particular insight into schools serving neurodiverse learners. Guided by a deep understanding of autism, ADHD, anxiety, and other learning differences, Tom has helped leaders create environments where students and adults alike can thrive. His work emphasizes inclusive leadership, social emotional growth, employability, and self advocacy, ensuring that differently abled learners are prepared not only for college but for meaningful and independent lives.

Throughout his career, Tom has served as a trusted advisor to school leaders, particularly those guiding small and mission driven institutions. Through coaching, mentorship, and collaborative problem solving, he has helped leaders navigate complex challenges while building cultures rooted in empathy, clarity of purpose, and long term sustainability. His sabbatical research on employment and independence for neurodiverse individuals led to innovative initiatives in job coaching, college transition support, and independent living, influencing programs at Hill Top and across organizations such as the Neurodiversity Employment Network, Neurodiversity in the Workplace, and the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute.

Tom’s leadership extends beyond individual schools. As a member of the ADVIS Board of Directors, he championed educational equity and helped cultivate a partnership with the Community Partnership School. He also played a key role in founding the Neurodiversity Employment Network, advancing workplace success for neurodivergent individuals.

Today, Tom partners with leaders as an executive coach and mentor, helping schools strengthen leadership, support inclusive communities, and guide meaningful change.
