Delvin Dinkins

An educator for over three decades, Delvin Dinkins is Head of School at Gill St. Bernard’s School in Gladstone, New Jersey. His leadership is characterized by visibility, authenticity, and a deep commitment to fostering environments where people and purpose thrive. A familiar presence across campus, he connects with students, faculty, staff, families, and alumni in classrooms, studios, and on playing fields, helping to bring to life the school’s mission and values of Courage, Integrity, Respect, Compassion, and Excellence.

Before arriving at Gill St. Bernard’s, Delvin served as Head of School at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia. Earlier, he was Assistant Head of School at The Pingry School, where he advanced key strategic and academic initiatives while teaching literature, and Head of Upper School at The Episcopal Academy, where he guided divisional vision and continued to teach and advise students. His career began in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District, where he taught literature at Conestoga High School and later served in a range of administrative leadership roles.

Delvin has presented and led workshops at national and regional meetings, including the National Association of Independent Schools, The College Board, and the American Council on Education. For his impact in education and beyond, he was inducted into the Delaware County (PA) Hall of Fame and received its Humanitarian Award.

He earned his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College. Since 2016, he and his wife of 31 years, Davirah—a fellow educator—have served together on Swarthmore’s Council on Presidential Initiatives. They are the proud parents of two adult children. A masters-level competitive runner, Delvin competes across the country with the Greater Philadelphia Track Club.
