Member Exchange: Bridging Generational

Perspectives to Build an Inclusive Workplace

As today's workplaces become increasingly multigenerational, DEIB leaders must navigate differing values, communication styles, and perspectives on the work. This interactive workshop explores how generational experiences shape approaches to DEIB and offers practical strategies for engaging stakeholders across all generations.

Participants will understand the generational approaches to work, learn how to bridge generational differences, foster meaningful dialogue, address resistance with empathy, and leverage the unique strengths of each generation to build a more  collaborative work life culture and classroom environment. Attendees will leave with actionable tools they can immediately apply to strengthen DEIB efforts within their teams and institutions.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Identify the defining characteristics and workplace values of today's five generations.

• Understand how generational experiences influence perspectives on DEIB initiatives and buyin.

• Apply communication and engagement strategies tailored to different generations.

• Develop approaches to foster psychological safety, address ageism, collaboration, and belonging across generations.

• Create an action plan to strengthen multigenerational engagement within their organization.

About ADVIS Member Exchanges

ADVIS Member Exchanges are refreshed peer-to-peer virtual programs that build on what made Roundtables valuable — candid connection and shared practice — while adding clearer structure and stronger practical takeaways. Our DEIJB-focused sessions will be offered through the Multicultural Resource Center (MCRC), with Danielle Suber, MCRC Committee Chair, organizing and facilitating each conversation.

Each session features a brief member-led presentation followed by facilitated discussion, Q&A, and resource sharing — so participants leave with ideas they can put into practice right away.
